Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Pathology

CML is characterized by:

  • Myeloid hyperplasia
  • Extramedullary hematopoiesis with splenomegaly
  • Leukocytosis.

CML has a unicellular origin but results in a multicellular stem cell neoplastic transformation.

Ph+ chromosome is found in proliferating erythroid, granulocytic, monocytic, megakaryocytic precursor cells but not in fibroblasts or somatic cells.
