Bone Marrow Aspirate:
The bone marrow aspirate in CML shows:
- Increased cellularity.
- Marked predominance of myelopoiesis.
- Erythropoiesis is normal.
- Granulopoiesis shows numerous neutrophils and band cells.
- Eosinophils are patchily distributed and are increased in some fields.
- There is a mild increase in metamyelocytes and the number of myelocytes, promyelocytes and blast cells are within the normal range.
- Megakaryocytes can easily be found within the aspirate (not shown in the image provided). Many are hypolobated and micromegakaryocytes are often seen.
- Occasional pseudo Gaucher cells are seen.
Bone Marrow Biopsy:
Bone Marrow biopsy in CML shows:
- Increased cellularity (up to 95%).
- The increase in neutrophils is a prominent feature.
- No infiltrates or clusters of blast cells can be seen.
- Some megakaryocytic clustering is seen, but it is not pronounced (not shown in the image provided).
