In ALL there are alterations in key regulatory cell processes that control:
- Hematopoetic proliferation
- Differentiation
- Apoptosis (cell death)
This happens through changes in:
- Alterations in cell signalling pathways
- Alterations in activity and expression of kinases
- Aberrant expression of proto-oncogenes
- Silencing of suppressor genes
- Expression of chimeric transcription factors (encoded by chromosomal translocations)
