Lymphocyte Depleted
Rare in children, but common in patients with HIV.
Pathology:
- Numerous bizarre large malignant cells, many HRS cells
- Few lymphocytes
- Diffuse fibrosis and necrosis
Often EBV positive in HIV patients
Clinical picture:
- Widespread disease involving bone and bone marrow.
- Generally poor prognosis though more recent studies suggest that with appropriate therapy, these patients may do well.
