Ewing sarcoma

Presentation

Symptoms of patients with Ewing sarcoma (ES) vary and are often related to the site of origin of the disease.

Usually patients present with local pain and swelling.

Less often patients complain of systemic symptoms - fever and malaise.

Pathological fracture can occur in about 10 - 15% of patients.

Delay in diagnosis is common :

  • Intratumor hemorrhage and necrosis sometimes produce erythema and warmth which can be mistaken for infection
  • Pelvic Ewing can become quite large before the patient is symptomatic
